Life of Pi

Life of Pi is a novel written by Yann Martel, published in 2001. No, I didnt read the book before entering the cinemas. I just saw advertisements on the tv and decided to catch it, so I had no idea what to expect. But I came out amazed at the cinematography effects. It was a pity that they only screened 3D IMAX for 2 weeks & I didn't managed to catch. But the 2D was enough to wow me. I really love the effects in the movie. I like how everything seemed so real that I couldn't really tell which part(s) are computer animations. Some scenes are really magical too.

Anyway, the story's about an Indian boy, Pi, who grew up in India. His Dad decides to sell the zoo and leave for Canada on a freighter. However, they met with a shipwreck and Pi was left all alone on a lifeboat with a zebra, hyena, Orang Utan and a Bengal tiger, Richard Parker. But you see from the poster above, it's pretty obvious that Richard Parker was the only animal which survived.

The movie's about faith and belief. And how Pi managed to survive the 227 days at the Pacific Ocean together with a tiger. Faith and belief, yes, but something else also caught my attention too, "I thought Richard Parker would turn back, I dont know. I thought he would make his goodbye in someway or another. But he did not. He just left for the jungle and that was the last time I saw him."

Watch the movie, and you'll know why it left such a deep impression in me. I'm sure you'll connect with the move and this phrase, someway. & I'm sure you'll come out of the theatre thinking about life, faith and beliefs.
